Parrett Community Shed

The Community Shed is based on the Men’s Shed concept, which started in 1999 in Australia and is now spread worldwide. Men's Sheds provide a community space for men to connect, converse and create. Our Shed is open to everyone, both men and women, and provides a place to pursue practical interests at leisure, practise skills and enjoy making and mending while making social connections, sharing skills and knowledge, building friendships and having fun. Everyone is welcome to our Shed, young or old.

A small group spent six months making internal alterations to our building so the Shed now has a quiet social area, small kitchen and an accessible toilet. The Shed would like to thank the local councils, businesses, community organisations and individuals who have supported us, without this help we would not have got the Shed open.

The Shed is currently opening for Tuesday and Thursday morning sessions between 9:30am and 1pm. In the initial sessions we will get to know each other and decide how we would like the Shed to operate. As we move forward we may adjust the format of the sessions to fit what our new members want, this could cover men's and women's sessions as well as open sessions and possibly opening in the evening or weekends.

There is a workshop area with pcs 1aa variety of woodworking and other equipment that has been donated to us and there is also a large open space that can be used for handicraft and other activities. Small products could be made and offered for sale (e.g. bird boxes, garden trugs and anything else members suggest) to help with meeting operating costs. Members could also bring their own personal projects. In the future the Shed will also get involved in the community by making and repairing items for local organisations.
