The Church year starts with Advent in early December. We estimate that over 400 people of all ages visit the St Mary’s in this time up to Christmas. Many of the activities were informal and quite joyous. The blessing of the Crib on the night before Christmas has the building bursting with families. As we move into 2020 there is a programme of activities and events for those wishing to be involved with the Church.
One special event in 2020 will be a concert of Russian music on Friday 31st January. It follows a very successful concert of Russian music in 2019.
On Ash Wednesday the penitential season of Lent will commence. Watch out for details in Roundabout and on this website.
On Easter morn there is a special fire lighting service in the Angel garden followed by breakfast. It concludes in time for the main services at St Mary’s on this important day.
Remembrance Sunday is also a day when young and old come together to give thanks for those who fought and died for their country in the two World Wars. Following wreath laying the village parades into the church for the commemoration service.
Recognising dementia in the community and supporting those suffering with its impact is recognised at St. Mary’s. A special Informal service at 11.00 am of the fourth Sunday each month welcomes a diverse group of people. Young families, many bringing young children to baptism at one extreme and elderly folk from the local care homes at the other provides a loud and hearty hour or so of music and prayer. An added delight is the Rector and her husband welcome the congregation to lunch after the service.
