We are starting a Community Flood Group to cover Langport and Huish Episcopi
Do you live in Langport or Huish Episcopi and are interested in helping the local community to become better at dealing with flooding events? A Community Flood Group is being established by residents with support from Langport Town and Huish Episcopi Parish Councils.
The Group will be formed by members of the community to work on behalf of the community. Our aim is, where possible, to support residents and businesses in the local area before, during and after a flood, and to raise general awareness of flooding issues locally. The Group’s role and activities are set out in our Community Flood Plan.
As part of their activities the Group will set up a network of Flood Wardens who will work within the local communities to improve their resilience to flooding. The Flood Wardens will help the community by:
Understanding the flood risks from both waterways and surface water in their area.
Being aware of residents who may need help if flooding occurs.
Providing a contact point between the community and the authorities in the event of a major flooding event.
If you are interested in helping set up the Group or helping the community as a Flood Warden please come along to a meeting at Huish Episcopi Primary School on Saturday 14th March at 2:00pm.
We need your help and enthusiasm!
