Huish Episcopi Parish Council has commissioned this flagpole, that is sited adjacent to the War Memorial, in response to a request from the Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Mrs A. Maw, to fly the Flag for Somerset on Somerset Day.
It was resolved at the Parish Council Meeting 15th March 2021 to proceed with this project. Whilst mainly for the Somerset Flag this is not to be exclusively so.
Somerset Day May 11th marks what is considered to be the date that King Alfred the Great defeated the Danes in 878.
The design of the Somerset flag relates to the ancient flag of Wessex.
