Surviving Winter
Being elderly and cold in your home this winter should not be an option, and for some within the Langport community struggling to keep warm, help is at hand.
The Rotary Club of Langport & Somerton has access to financial support for those who are struggling to pay for adequate heating, and is keen to hear from anyone over 60 years of age in the area who needs help with paying their heating bill.
It is easy to apply.
Just call a Rotarian to chat through you requirements after which someone will visit you to discuss eligibility for the financial support available and to provide a few easy tips to keep warm. Assuming the applicant is eligible, the grant is usually about £125, but in exceptional circumstances this could be doubled.
If you would like help from Rotary, or know someone who would benefit from this support, but may not feel confident in applying, please call Rotarian Rupert Cox on 01458 241616 after 6.30pm.
The project, called “Surviving Winter” is a county-wide project funded by the charity The Somerset Community Foundation where those who are better off donate to the charity that then uses this money to provide support for those who cannot afford additional heating in times of extreme cold. The Rotary Club of Langport & Somerton is proud to be delivering the Surviving Winter service on behalf of the Somerset Community Foundation since 2012, and in that time they have provided over £10,000 of financial support to older residents struggling to pay their fuel bill.
