Defibrillator Available to All at All Times

300defibrillatorParish Council Chairman Shirley Nicholas identified the need for a defibrillator that would be available to all parishioners at all times, the existing local defibrillators being only available in the Surgery and Sports Centre during working hours.
This proposal was fully supported by the entire Council and various avenues of how best to bring this about in a cost efficient way, were followed up.
The Parish Clerk Jane Redfearn came up with the solution, she approached Huish leisure regarding the one that they had mounted internally.
The proposition to resite the defibrillator in a weather and vandal proof cabinet on an external wall, with the associated costs being met by the Parish Council, was in a constructive way readily accepted by Huish Leisure and the Academy.
The image shows the cabinet mounted by the main entrance doors flanked by Jane to the left and Shirley.
The process to use the defibrillator is as follows:
To access the cabinet you simply call 999 and the emergency services operator will give you the code to enter. If you are in the situation where you needed to call 999, stay on the phone as the operator will direct you on how to use the defibrillator as well as how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation, commonly known as CPR.’
Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are designed to be used by members of the public
It is the view of the Resuscitation Council (UK) that the use of AEDs should NOT be restricted to trained personnel.
