South Somerset residents help shape the future of the census

Please find attached a short article from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) in regards to their 2017 Test Census.

South Somerset has been selected as a test area from across the UK due to the number of communal establishments like hotels and bed and breakfasts, as well as lots of second homes – both traditionally difficult to record in a census. In terms of population, South Somerset also has a number of residents over the age of 65, while it also has a lower reliable outdoor mobile coverage, so it will be important for the ONS to test its systems ahead of an online census in 2021.

The ONS suggested SSDC distribute the attached article to Parish Councils and hoped that you might want to include in an edition of your Parish Newsletter in advance of the Census Test on 9 April 2017.

Many thanks,
